About us

The Austrian JKA Karate Association (JKA-Austria) as organizer of the event is the sole and official representative of the JKA in Austria. All activities in Austria relating to the JKA (Japan Karate Association World Federation) (e.g. invitations from JKA instructors to courses) are carried out exclusively by the Austrian JKA Karate Association (JKA-Austria).

The Karate Union Wien as organizer, has been teaching traditional Karate-Do (Shotokan style) according to the training standards and methods of the Japanese Karate Association (Japan Karate Association-JKA) for more than 50 years.

The club's founder Michael Canoy (1951 - 2021) was the first Austrian to have the opportunity to learn karate in the Japan Karate Association (JKA) in Tokyo under the great Japanese masters: Shihan Nakayama, Ochi, Kanazawa, Yahara, Iida, Ueki and many others.

Studying sports science in Austria and Japan enabled him to optimally combine traditional karate with modern sports science methods and to pass this on to his students and successors.

This enables us to provide an offer that is unique in Austria.
